Types of detectors for the entryway

• Recessed PIR sensors: 360º or 140º mini versions, built into the suspended ceiling and almost invisible.
• Surface-mounted PIR sensors: 180º or 360º, also in an ultra-flat version, for ceilings without a suspended ceiling or for walls.
• Microwave sensors: detect smaller movements and work through thin materials, with ranges from 2 to 10 meters.

Why install a detector at the entrance

The entryway is a passageway: it's used for just a few minutes a day, but always at the moment you arrive loaded with bags, kids or umbrellas. A presence detector adds convenience and safety, and it also prevents the light being left on when you rush out, which means savings. It works very well in hallways leading off the entryway, too.

How to choose a presence detector for your entryway

PIR or microwave technology

PIR detects moving heat and is the most common choice in homes. Microwave is more sensitive and is the better choice when the entryway has nooks or you want to detect small movements.

Angle and location

On the ceiling, a 360º sensor covers the whole entrance; on a wall, a 180º sensor facing the door is enough.

Load capacity

Check the maximum load: many models support up to 1200 W incandescent and 300 W LED, more than enough for an entryway.

Timer and brightness
